Bible Translations: Does It Really Matter?
Recently at a camp meeting I met a fellow member who very confidently expressed his belief in the idea of the New International Version (NIV) being a superior Bible translation than the Authorized King James Version (KJV). I'll admit I was a little stunned for I had actually never met someone personally with this view except outside the Adventist church with this belief. His reason for believing this was based upon the idea that more translators were involved.

I began to 'investigate' the matter more deeply for I had always used the Authorized King James Version only. The results of my studies were stunning to say the least: The King James Version of the Bible is the only translation that does not destroy sound Biblical doctrine!

Four translations are compared with the King James Version. They are the following:
(NKJV) New King James Version
(NIV) New International Version
(NASB) New American Standard Bible
(NRSV) New Revised Standard Version

NOTE: Red color lettering denotes the error.

Jesus is not fully God.
Daniel 3:25 - a "God" or a "god"
?

KJV: "He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God."

NKJV: " and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God."

NIV: "and the fourth looks like a son of the gods."

NASB: "and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods!"

NRSV: "and the fourth has the appearance of a god."

The Sabbath is just another day.
Exodus 20:10 - "the" Sabbath or "a" sabbath?

KJV: " But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God:"

NKJV: "but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God."

NIV: "but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God."

NASB: "but the seventh day is a sabbath of the LORD your God;"

NRSV: "But the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God;"

The word "the" is the definite article and the word "a" can just mean it's a sabbath just like the other ceremonial sabbaths.

The Ten Commandments are nailed to the cross.
Ephesians 2:15 - Commandments "in" ordinances or commandments "and" ordinances?

KJV: "Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances"

NKJV: "having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances"

NIV: "by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations."

NASB: " abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances"

NRSV: "He has abolished the law with its commandments and ordinances"

The Ten Commandments or moral law was not nailed to the cross. Only the ceremonial laws were. But yet according to the NIV and the NRSV it is stated that the Ten Commandments were done away with at the cross. This is why many people believe they can keep Sunday and disregard the fourth commandment.

The Catholic/pagan error of purgatory.
2 Peter 2:9 - "to be" punished or "under" punishment?

KJV: "The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished."

NKJV: "then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment."

NIV: "if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the day of judgment, while continuing their punishment."

NASB: " then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment"

NRSV: " then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trial, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgement."

These are only a few examples of theological destruction. Along with these the NIV removes many verses in their entirety. Try looking up Matthew 18:11 or Mark 11:26 in the New International Version and you will not find it. Revelation 22:19 says " And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life". This verse is talking about the prophecies of the book of Revelation but the principle is there to apply to all the Scriptures.

It could and would be dangerous for God's people to use any other Bible than the King James Version of the Bible. There are no doctrinal errors in this Bible. The Protestant Reformation was built on the KJV and I believe wholeheartedly the Loud Cry will be given using it also. And yes, for the record I do use these translations but for comparisons only. My prayer is for God's people to get back to our Bible's (KJV) and really understand our vital and distinct truths the world is waiting to hear. Amen.
